The concept of Disability Ministry is a new area of interest and calling for me. When a disability enters the life of one person, it enters the life of the family. Disability can either create unity, pulling the family together or it can fracture the family, causing division, anger and even isolation, some people turn away from God and the church.

No matter when the word “disability” enters a person’s life, it causes a major life adjustment for the newly disabled person to maintain their identity and be the person they were prior to the disability. The family with a new baby that has a disability is suddenly forced to deal with this major life adjustment. It is a challenge to keep in the forefront, the words of Jeremiah and remember the plan that God has for everyone, even people with disabilities.

Where can people with disabilities go for hope? I took for granted that people with disabilities were being welcomed and utilized by the church. To the contrary, I have heard many haunting stories about how individuals affected by disabilities are treated differently and even turned away by the church. When you are not part of a specific group that is the target of discrimination, it is hard to understand the harsh reality and the ramifications.

God has blessed me started a ministry, Divine Destiny Disability Ministry to work collaboratively with churches, denomination and agencies in order to provide disability ministry education, training, and workshops. Kingdom Building begins with the leadership the Pastor and church leaders but includes everyone in the body of Christ. The scripture reminds us that the “Kingdom of God is within us,” (Luke 17:21). I thank God that I am still full of the Holy Ghost, I am being led by Spirit, but now I have the Power of Spirit to go and do the work. I am no longer questioning my calling, feeling sorry for myself, or even concerned about how I look —I thank God to be alive, Amen! I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the disabled community and enlighten, educate and provide training to churches. To God be the Glory!
